How to Get a High-End Retail Job

How to Get a High-End Retail Job

You'll learn to move through the ranks in a speedily manner to reach your goals within the retail business.

Things You'll Need:

A willingness to learn

Step
1

Make sure you have some sort of customer service experience. Most managers and executives look for people who've had face to face interaction with customers. If you have no experience, be proactive! If you've filled out an application and you haven't received a call within 60+ days, be assertive and call human resources and let them know you're still interested. Make them take note of who you are, but there is a fine line between assertiveness and being a pest, so be careful.

Step
2

If you don't already have at least 2 years of retail employment under your belt, don't worry; apply for a smaller position in a high end retail store such as an Associate, Merchandise Stocker, or you can even see if they offer an internship.

Step
3

Keep your eyes and ears open to the INSIDE EMPLOYMENT OPPORTUNITIES bulletins. Most companies LOVE to hire from within so even if you've only been in a particular position for 6 months, you have a huge advantage over anyone else outside of the company.

Step
4

Get in good with human resources, managers, personal shoppers, and executives within the company. If people who are already in higher positions know your name, your goals and your personality, they'll likely think of you or nominate you when a position does become available.

Step
5

Lastly, do well at your job once you're in! Throw on your biggest customer service face and don't be afraid to ask customers/clients to mention your name or fill out surveys.

Tips & Warnings

If you know of anyone working at a retail store in which you'd like to work, ask them to refer you.
