How to Get a Knot Out of a Gold Necklace
Gold necklaces have a tendency to knot when they're not laid out straight in a jewelry box. This is frustrating when you plan on wearing the
necklace
and only have a short time to get the knot out. The number one thing needed for untangling a necklace knot is patience. But when you run out of that, a straight pin and baby oil help, too.
Things You'll Need:
Straight pin
Towel
Magnifying glass
Baby or olive oil
Dish detergent
Step
1
Gather your supplies before sitting down to untangle the necklace. Lay them on a towel so the straight pin doesn't get lost.
Step
2
Lay the necklace on a table or other area where you have bright light. Choose an area where you can sit level with the necklace, or lean over the necklace so you can see the knot from the top.
Step
3
Take a magnifying glass and inspect the knot. See if you can tell how the knot is tangled, looking for an area where you can fit the straight pin in and tug around.
Step
4
Use the straight pin to pull gently on the knot, lifting the knotted strands and separating them.
Step
5
Rub some baby oil or
olive
oil
into the knot, if pulling with a straight pin doesn't help. Clean the oil off your hands and try untangling the knotted necklace with the straight pin again. The oil should make the chain slide easily, and the knotted part separate better.
Step
6
Wash your necklace in warm water and mild dish detergent after you untangle the knot.
